VA has their own national telestroke system

• UC Stroke Team will be called for transfers

• Our job is not to repeat what their telestroke system has done, but rather, facilitate bringing the patient to UCMC for higher level of care.

• Assessing capacity to perform a procedure is one of the important pieces to this

• Do not need to assess bed availability- consider it a “just say yes” situation and bring to the UCMC ED

• We can then be formally consulted on the patient once they arrive

• Imaging should be available via Powershare

• Bennett Lane has confirmed a couple of things for us:

• It is not an EMTALA violation to bring the patient to our ED (or floors)

• If any confusion bring patient to ED

• They are ok with a few “encephalopathy NOS’s” to just get the patient over here

• Please do not involve Neuro VA resident
